iPod Touch vs. iPhone

And so my mom sprung a surprise on me Sunday night. I was just casually talking about the usual things we talk about on the phone, my room, food, relatives in Penang and Germany, cars: hers and mine (when I ever get one), the status of my scholarship application, money, IKEA, college, Frisbee our dog, random things in the world like petrol (which come to think of it isn’t very random at all, is it?) and other stuff. I was telling her about my list of wanted gadgets and actually the iPhone came out. That somehow changed into iPod Touch halfway along the conversation. Weird, but completely necessary, considering the circumstances.

Now I was looking for something that would help entertain me in college when I’m bored, give me the ability to check my email whenever I wanted, let me listen to music, maybe watch a video or two and other stuff, like calculate things, read ebooks and do other very productive tasks. It really did seem as if an iPhone was the answer to my problem, but I really didn’t want to get one and use it illegally. If your unlocked iPhone gets toasted somehow or other, Apple Service Centers in Malaysia won’t even be able to accept it for repair because the iPhone isn’t officially available here. And that was the thing that put me off. Lemons just happen, and they always happen to me. :(

Then I thought of the iPod Touch.

)

This fantabulous device which will let me do everything except call people and talk to them. I’m cool with that. I can still send messages. You know, SMS-ing through the Internet. Like Digi lets you SMS 3 times every day for free on their website if you’re a Digi user. I’ll be able to do everything I wanted, still keep my nice red 3G Sony Ericsson K610i and get 32GB worth of space to boot.

Of course that’s better than an getting an iPhone outright. Goodness knows when it’ll come to Malaysia. I heard Japan will be getting their stock soon, but other than that, no sign of news until they announce iPhone 2.0.

And if it ever breaks (God forbid!) I’ll be able to get it fixed at any Apple Service Centre.

But that’s not the story!

The story is, that my mom suddenly asked me if I really wanted it. And of course, you say yes to that kind of question. ;) And then she said she’d wire me the money and I could ask a friend to get me one when he goes over to the States. And I was so happy! I kept looking up links for iPod Touch applications and how to jailbreak my soon-to-be new baby. And of course, it’ll be a boy. iPods are boys. :)

But my friend said he wasn’t sure he could get one for me. So… I went to where all the geeky girls go to look for stuff. Low Yat Forums! And I found an iPod Touch for RM1500! Oh my gosh!!!! That’s RM499 cheaper than in stores. Man. I love Low Yat, whoever you are. Haha. So I’ll probably get my new little guy on Thursday. And when I do, look out world here I come! :) :) :)

Haha. But seriously. Don’t get an iPhone. Everybody has one nowadays. Lol. Or if you do, make sure it will stand out from the crowd, or you’ll just look like a groupie who wants one cos everybody has one.

I’m happy and I’m waiting and I can’t wait for him to get here. Then.. I’m gonna caress his beautifully designed body and load him full of apps and dress him up in a GelaSkin and let him sleep next to me at night. Teehee.

Me out.
